    Principal activities : Based on agriculture, the Senegalese economy has been dependent on groundnuts for over a century, even if it has also turned to rice and cotton Since the 1980s income from fish exports has overtaken the income from groundnuts.     * Vaccination against yellow fever is compulsory (even without an obligation from the local authorities).
    The vaccination is valid for ten years and can be done at least ten days before the departure.

    * Vaccinations against Meningitis (A+C) is recommended - please ask for information before your departure.

    * Malaria : endemic region in its major form falciparum - strict preventive measures are necessary.
    Some parasitic diseases can be transmitted by mosquitos. The use of skin and clothing insect repellents is recommended.

    * Cholera is endemic in Senegal. Vulnerable people are the natives who live in poor health conditions.
    These are the preventive measures: regularly wash your hands with cleansed or clean water. Outside the Village, drink only cap bottled water, don't eat uncooked or unpeeled food.
